Linda Johannes, a single mother, begins selling turquoise and sterling silver Native American jewelry on the side of the road in Montana.

Linda and a partner open Lone Mountain Jewelry in downtown Bozeman. Lone Mountain grows with the development of the Native American jewelry craze and starts supplying Native American jewelry to five concessions in Yellowstone National Park. As the craze fades in the late 70’s, Lone Mountain adds diamonds and gold to the store inventory and Linda begins taking GIA courses to learn the technical aspects of the fine jewelry business.

In 1980, Linda and her partner dissolve Lone Mountain Jewelry and Linda moves to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. There she opens a tiny downstairs shop, Johannes and Company. Linda soon meets and marries Glenn Hunter. But their partnership is not only romantic — they also become business partners, as Glenn has many years of experience in the traditional jewelry business.

The Coeur d’Alene business prospers.  Johannes and CO moves from the basement to a busy  corner of Main Street in downtown. As business thrives, Linda and Glenn decide to open a second location in nearby Sandpoint, Idaho.

In a quest for more sunshine and a larger market, the couple closes the Sandpoint store, sells the Coeur d’Alene store and moves to Colorado Springs to open a fresh, new jewelry store – Johannes Hunter Jewelers at the corner of Bijou and Tejon Streets in downtown Colorado Springs.

JHJ grows by leaps and bounds.  Robin Johannes, Linda’s daughter, joins the business. Robin already has years of experience in the jewelry industry, managing the Coeur D’Alene store until it sells and then working at LaVake Jewelers in Princeton, New Jersey. So her move to join Linda and Glenn is fitting.

As business grows, Johannes Hunter Jewelers remodels and  expands into an adjacent store on Bijou Street.  The store added its first on premise goldsmith on the path to establishing itself  as Colorado Springs premier jeweler.

Linda’s oldest daughter, Brenda Boyd, joins the company, expanding upon the principle of a family-owned and operated store. Brenda also has many years of experience in the jewelry business and is a vital contributor.

Glenn Hunter decides having three women in the family in one store is just too much.  He leaves Johannes Hunter Jewelers to open Glenn’s Jewelry and Loan at Palmer Park and Academy Blvd.

Once again, JHJ outgrows the corner location and moves a half block south where they gut and renovate an old building into a beautiful new store.

Ten years later, after 23 wonderful years in downtown, the decision was made to relocate and build a shiny new store at the present location. With the growth of Colorado Springs both North and East, the location at the new University Village Colorado is centrally located, conveniently accessed from I25 and right down the street from the United States Air Force Academy.

As of 2018, Robin is the primary owner of the family business. Most days,  Robin and Brenda can  still be found in the store, doing what they do best.  Linda is the  CFO and in the store part-time.  We are proud of our business and proud to be Colorado Springs’ premier jewelry store. We continue to genuinely enjoy serving our clients and our community!
